
A tragic incident unfolded last week when a 66-year-old male tourist from Japan was found unresponsive in the waters off Lāwa‘i Beach. According to a press release from Kauai County, the visitor sadly passed away on Monday night following the incident that occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 12:35 p.m. that afternoon, where they discovered bystanders administering CPR to the victim. Medics quickly took over the advanced resuscitation efforts and transported the individual to the Wilcox Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, the man was later pronounced dead on Monday, Aug. 19.
The identity of the victim has been withheld, pending notification of next of kin, and an autopsy is currently underway to ascertain the precise cause of death. Authorities have indicated that there are no signs of foul play in this case.
