Television aficionados might be pleased to hear that Jared Padalecki is on the move to fresh territory within the CBS network. Having completed a four-season run as the star of Walker, Padalecki is set for a three-episode guest arc on CBS' Fire Country. As reported exclusively by Deadline, the episodes could serve as a springboard for a potential offshoot of the show, which airs its third season this October.
My San Antonio states that Padalecki will assume the role of Camden, a SoCal firefighter known for his maverick spirit and surfer-inspired confidence. Before coming to CBS, Padalecki was on Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, and most recently, Walker, which was canceled despite strong viewership due to financial reasons. While his deal with CBS Studios is currently limited to a recurring role, there is speculation fueled by his proven track record that Camden's character may lead a new series in the foreseeable future.
CBS' Fire Country topped the charts as last season's most-watched new broadcast series, boasting an average viewership of around 8 million per episode, says My San Antonio. This success has not gone unnoticed by CBS executives. In a statement obtained by Deadline, CBS President and CEO George Cheeks shared, "This season's number one show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe... It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch."
Fire Country, inspired by Thieriot's upbringing in Northern California, delves into the lives of convicts seeking redemption by participating in a firefighting program. Apart from Thieriot, Fire Country's lineup includes Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway, and Jules Latimer. Although focusing on his role in CBS' Fire Country currently, Deadline reports that Padalecki has also been exploring options with Prime Video's The Boys, another potential addition to his growing portfolio post-Walker.
Expectations are high for the October 18 premiere of Fire Country's third season, which will feature Padalecki's introduction to the universe. Season 1 has just made its debut on Netflix and is already making waves by reaching #3 in the platform's daily rankings. Season three promises to continue expanding on the series' narrative as well as potentially setting the stage for future spins on the franchise.
