The U.S. Border Patrol has seen a change at the helm of its Laredo Sector, as the agency recently announced Jesse D. Muñoz has taken on the role of Chief Patrol Agent (CPA). Drawing on 23 years of experience within the border enforcement ranks, CPA Muñoz isn't new to the challenges that face the agents on the ground. His tenure with the U.S. Border Patrol began back in August 2000, when he joined the 448th Session of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, according to a CBP news release.

Having served eight years previously in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic and a Vocational Nurse, Muñoz's military service, including deployments to Turkey and Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War, left a profound mark on his approach to public service. Deployed to Iraq as a Combat Medic with the Third Infantry Division, he gained firsthand experiences that would later provide a bedrock of leadership and tactical knowledge for his roles in border security.

A seasoned agent, Muñoz's career has been marked by various leadership positions rising through the ranks, including stints as Acting CPA and Deputy Chief Patrol Agent for the Laredo Sector. His resume spans beyond his immediate sector with roles as Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent for both Rio Grande Valley and El Paso Sectors, and as Deputy Chief Patrol Agent for the Special Operations Group. In his new position, informing his decisions will be a wealth of experience that includes heading the National BORSTAR Unit within the Special Operations Group, a testament to his specialized expertise in search and rescue operations.

More than just field experience, Muñoz brings a solid academic background to the table. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the American Military University and obtained a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. With a Master's degree in hand, he is well-prepared to strategize and lead his sector, crafting policies and operations that reflect the complex strategic needs of the modern border enforcement environment.
