A juvenile was arrested in Novato yesterday for felony vandalism and other related charges after damaging a vehicle near Novato High School. The Novato Police Department (NPD) received multiple 911 calls around 10 AM, reporting the incident. According to a statement on the NPD Facebook page, witnesses described a group of juveniles who exited a silver sedan and proceeded to vandalize a parked car.
Following the reports, a detective and a School Resource Officer (SRO) were dispatched to investigate. Later that day, around 3 PM, the SRO pinpointed the suspect’s vehicle at the intersection of Sunset Parkway and Cambridge Street. The teenager was the only occupant and was subsequently taken into custody. A search of the vehicle uncovered an imitation firearm, tools for breaking into cars, gang-affiliated paraphernalia, and an illegal knife.
The underage suspect now faces charges including felony vandalism, conspiracy, possession of an imitation firearm, and possession of an illegal knife. "The Novato Police Department has zero tolerance for violence on or around our school campuses," the department emphasized. The teen was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall following the arrest.
Community members are encouraged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities by calling NPD at 415-897-4361 or dialing 9-1-1 in an emergency.
