The streets of Kingsport are about to get a splash of color, courtesy of the city's Storm Drain Art Contest, now celebrating its seventh year of merging creativity with environmental advocacy. In a recent announcement, the City of Kingsport's Stormwater Department, along with the Office of Cultural Arts and Engage Kingsport, unveiled the names of the contest's winners.

These local artists—Brenda Barkley, Katie Edwards, Lillyana Peterson, Kaitlyn Snyder, and Adelyn Stancel—are gearing up to turn the city's storm drains into vibrant statements aimed at fostering a community dialogue about water conservation and aquatic ecosystems.

According to a release from Kingsport's official website, the artists will kick-start their projects with the provided paint and materials come September, following through, they'll each pocket a $150 prize but not just for their talent, also for their commitment to the cause. The designated locations for this public art initiative include spots ranging from Clinchfield Street, near the historic Press Building, to the busy intersection of Market Street and Commerce Street, these areas are soon to be canvases for environmental conversation starters.
