Kids in Kingsport with a hankering to hit home runs or smoothly field grounders have something to look forward to come September. The local Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up to serve up some sporting know-how with its upcoming Baseball & Softball Skills and Drills courses, tailor-made for youngsters eager to get the hang of America's favorite pastime. According to an announcement on the city's official website, the classes are set to begin next month and will take place on September 4 and September 18, providing kids the chance to buff up their batting, pitching, and sprinting before the fall season kicks in.
The program will hold its sessions at the aptly chosen Domtar Park, with the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex serving as the backup location if the rain decides to, quite literally, rain on the parade. Addressing the what, when, and where, the Parks and Recreation Department has everything diligently planned out — 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the prescribed dates, they'll be all set to teach children aged five to twelve how to adapt and enhance their baseball or softball skills quickly.
Now, for parents thinking about whether to sign up their little ones, here are the nitty-gritty details. Young athletes participating will get the chance to learn the essential skills of both baseball and softball, specifically the arts of throwing, fielding, and of course, hitting. The drills that have been crafted will also focus on improving speed, with a dash of footwork and agility exercises mixed in to help quickly round out their player portfolio.
