The tragic death of Ben Kredich, whose life was cut short by an impaired driver, has led to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his parents against various parties. As reported by WVLT, Matt and Kim Kredich are seeking millions in damages for the loss of their 24-year-old son, who was fatally struck in August of 2023.
The Kredich family's suit is lodged against the driver Shannon Walker, American Medical Response (AMR) paramedics, Knox County Emergency Communications District, Park West Medical Center, and Scott Walker, the brother of the driver. They allege that these responders and medical staff were complicit after failing to take actions that could have prevented Shannon Walker from driving after being revived from an overdose earlier that day, as Newstalk987 noted.
The ramifications of this case resonate beyond the tragic incident, as it has spurred legislative action. The "Ben Kredich Act," aiming to curb opioid-related DUIs, was passed unanimously by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier in April, a testament to the enduring impact of Ben's untimely passing. The suit filed by the Kredich's is seeking $5 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages for their son's suffering before his death, and encompassing their son's lost wages, loss of consortium, along with funeral and burial expenses, as detailed by WATE.
