Early Tuesday morning, the quiet of Kyle was shattered by the screech of tires and the glare of police lights as a high-speed chase ensued. According to FOX 7 Austin, the Kyle Police Department received a call shortly before 4 a.m. about the possible burglary of multiple vehicles on the 100 block of Bunton Creek Road. Responding officers chased down the suspects, a chase which careened through the streets and ended abruptly when the suspects' vehicle smashed into a light pole on the I-35 frontage road at Exit 230.
Three Austin men were arrested following the crash, their escape attempt was cut short when foot met the solid reality of law enforcement. The men, fleeing from the car, were identified by CBS Austin as Carlos Moreno-Ramirez, 27, Kevin Moreno-Ramirez, 25, and Edwin Escobar-Alvarez, 31. The three, now in custody, are facing a slew of charges including burglary of a vehicle, engaging in organized criminal activity, theft of a firearm, and evading arrest.
Inside the crumpled remains of the vehicle, officers reportedly recovered two stolen handguns and narcotics, hinting at both a disregard for the law and the safety of the community. "We commend these officers for their swift response," Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said, acknowledging the involved officers' quick actions that not only apprehended the suspects but also reclaimed stolen property for the victims.
The anticipatory rush of the chase, meanwhile, was compounded by the discovery of the illicit items, signaling a comprehensive disregard for the sanctity of personal property and public safety. Escobar-Alvarez, who police identified as the driver, carries the additional burden of evading arrest with a vehicle and reckless driving charges. While the wreckage remained as a grim reminder of the night's events, the fourth suspect remains at large, charges pending as the investigation continues.
The Kyle Police Department, with sights set on closure and justice, is actively seeking more information. In a collaborative effort to net the remaining suspect and aid the judicial process, they urge anyone with information to call 512-268-3232 or to submit an anonymous tip to Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-8477.
