Lake Elsinore has become the focal point of an attempted murder investigation following a shooting incident that occurred last Sunday afternoon. According to a statement obtained by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, at around 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, deputies were called to the scene on the 400 block of West Heald Avenue after reports of gunfire. No victims were struck, but evidence at the scene confirmed shots had indeed been fired, and multiple individuals were believed to be targeted.
Investigators from the Lake Elsinore Special Enforcement Team and Region 4 Gang Task Force took over the case, pinpointing a 17-year-old male juvenile from the local area as the suspect. Two days later on August 27 deputies located the suspect driving near the intersection of Ellis and Franklin Streets; they attempted a stop, but the suspect didn't yield a pursuit ensued, and during the chase deputies saw the teen tossing an item, later identified as a rifle, out of his vehicle.
The brief chase came to an end shortly after the weapon was discarded, with the suspect surrendering to authorities and being detained without further issue. A search warrant followed at a home in Lake Elsinore, leading to the discovery of additional evidence linked to the shooting. The teenager now faces charges of attempted murder, felony evading, and several weapon-related offenses, and he has been booked into Riverside County Juvenile Hall.
