
Over the weekend, the vigilant officers of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Laredo Port of Entry intercepted and seized a substantial amount of narcotics, with a street value of over $773,000.
According to a statement from CBP, the operation began on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge. A 28-year-old female Mexican citizen, upon inspection, was found to be carrying 18.07 pounds of alleged cocaine, valued at $241,375. Port Director Alberto Flores emphasized the officers' dedication; he stated, "Officers at the Port of Laredo have heightened their border security posture by maintaining vigilance and detecting suspicious activity."
The vigilant efforts continued into Sunday, with another incident occurring at the Gateway to Americas Bridge. A 28-year-old female U.S. citizen whose vehicle was not enrolled in CBP's SENTRI trusted traveler program was flagged for a meticulous inspection. What unfolded was the discovery of 53.79 pounds of alleged methamphetamine, 660 grams of alleged cocaine, and 500 grams of alleged black-tar heroin. Cumulatively, these narcotics bore the potential havoc of $532,583 on the streets, as detailed on CPB's official website.
In the aftermath of these events, CBP seized both narcotics and vehicles involved. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents stepped into the breach, arresting the drivers and commencing with criminal investigations.
