Las Vegas is mourning the loss of its only giraffe, Ozzie, who died after an unforeseen fall at Lion Habitat Ranch. According to a statement obtained by FOX5, Ozzie was startled during the pre-dawn hours which led to a fall causing serious injuries. Despite the immediate and exhaustive efforts of the staff, owners, and veterinarians who provided constant care, the giraffe could not be saved.
Originally from Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Wichita, Kansas, Ozzie joined the Lion Habitat Ranch family as a youthful 8-month-old and grew to become a staple of the establishment over the years. With the ranch set to close today, August 2 in Ozzie's honor, the staff and visitors prepare to reflect on the void left by their beloved giraffe. Officials from the ranch stated that they are awaiting blood test results to further understand the cause of Ozzie's fall.
Lion Habitat Ranch also released a heartfelt message on their Facebook page, conveying the depth of sorrow felt by Ozzie's loss. They recounted how Ozzie wasn't just any giraffe but a gentle spirit who made a lasting impact on those he met. "Ozzie, the majestic giraffe who graced the ranch, succumbed to injuries sustained from an early morning fall," the ranch shared with their community.
