
Las Vegas has been the backdrop for a chilling crime story unfolding since mid-August, with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) confirming the arrest of 34-year-old Melvin Alexander in connection with a fatal shooting in an east Las Vegas apartment. News 3LV reports that the apprehension came on Tuesday, following a police call to a vacated residence on the 3000 block of South Nellis Boulevard where the victim, who is yet to be named pending identification by the Clark County Coroner's Office, was found with a gunshot wound on August 15.
According to information from FOX5 Vegas, Alexander faced his initial court appearance this morning since his booking into the Clark County Detention Center under the charge of murder with a deadly weapon, the law catching up to him nearly two weeks after the alleged crime occurred, he is expected to return to court on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The details surrounding how Alexander was connected to the crime have not been disclosed, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide department remains firmly ensconced in their ongoing investigation.
Digging deeper into the circumstances of the fatal incident, officers initially responded to the emergency call about the shooting at approximately 6:45 p.m., locating the victim inside the said vacant apartment near Nellis Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive. Despite their rapid response, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The police aren't sharing many details about a recent shooting, which is fueling a familiar sense of tragedy in the area.
