A man has been taken into custody following an armed robbery incident in downtown Boston. According to the Boston Police Department, at around 2:34 PM on Saturday, officers were dispatched to the scene near 6 Congress Street after receiving reports of an altercation.
Witnesses described a confrontation that ended with the alleged assailant, identified as 27-year-old Xavier DeJesus of Lawrence, and the victim taking refuge inside the Boston Public Market to escape the skirmish. The security team at the market detained both individuals. DeJesus is accused of attempting to steal the victim's bike, a seemingly simple crime that escalated into violence when he allegedly punched and bit the victim.
The victim managed to stay in pursuit of DeJesus until the market's security intervened. The Boston Police Department stated that "the suspect punched, and bit the victim before attempting to flee."
Following the investigation at the scene, Xavier DeJesus was arrested and now faces charges of Armed Robbery, Assault and Battery, and Furnishing False ID Information to Law Enforcement. With the justice system taking its course, DeJesus is scheduled for arraignment in the Boston Municipal Court. As security held back the two men, the gravity of the offenses allegedly committed by DeJesus sat waiting to be unraveled in court.
