According to a statement obtained by Middlesex District Attorney's office, Lexington Police responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, following the distress call, the preliminary investigation indicating the infant never made it inside the daycare on August 13, and may have been in the car for an extended period of time at his mother's vehicle before being found.
Marian Ryan, Middlesex District Attorney, and Lexington Chief of Police Michael McLean confirmed the case is actively being looked into by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the District Attorney’s Office along with Lexington Police; further details on the case are pending the outcome of the comprehensive investigation, which includes forensic analysis and interviews.
The infant, who was about to turn one on August 31, has had the case referred to the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. The community mourns both the young life lost and the unfulfilled potential, deepening the tragedy.
