A tragic incident left one person dead in Long Beach following a collision between a mini motorcycle and a tractor-trailer, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department. The accident, which took place on August 7, 2024, at the intersection of West Anaheim Street and Hayes Avenue, was attended by officers who responded to the scene at approximately 4:46 p.m.
Upon arrival at the northbound lane of Hayes Avenue, just north of West Anaheim Street, officers discovered the vehicles involved and the motorcycle driver lying on the road. The Long Beach Fire Department personnel declared the motorcyclist deceased at the scene, with the tractor-trailer driver cooperating with the investigation conducted by the Collision Investigation detectives.
The initial findings, according to the Long Beach Police Department, suggest that the tractor-trailer was making a left turn to head northbound on Hayes Avenue, intersecting the path of the westbound mini motorcycle. The collision between the mini motorcycle and the passenger side of the tractor-trailer was a tragic result. Distracted driving has not been ruled out as a potential cause of the crash, although speed and driving under the influence are not considered factors at this point.
The victim of this unfortunate event has been identified as Nicholas Kusmich, a 50-year-old Long Beach resident, as reported by the police department.
