Residents of Boyle Heights witnessed a grass fire outbreak yesterday evening that was quickly subdued by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The blaze started near 2510 E Chelsea St, along the north side of the 10 Freeway, just south of Soto Street. The fire was reported at 06:51 P.M., as indicated in an LAFD alert, which initially estimated the affected area to be approximately one acre of vegetation.
By 08:00 PM, the LAFD had managed to effectively knock down the grass fire, thanks to the efforts of 20 skilled firefighters. They were successfully able to confine the fire to the one-acre area without permitting it to spread further or cause any infrastructural damage. This incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Fire Station 2, in Council District 14, Central Bureau.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing, with the Los Angeles Police Department being notified of a potential suspect. Witnesses reported an adult male possibly setting fires in the area, leading to the LAPD Hollenbeck Division (Incident #4468) being alerted. The precise cause and origin are yet to be determined by the LAFD's Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section.
