It was a moment of forgetfulness that led him to purchase his tickets online at MichiganLottery.com, an act he usually performed in-store. The surprise win, confirmed by a pair of revelatory emails from the Michigan Lottery, at first seemed unbelievable to the man who had initially thought he had only won $1.
The winning numbers that aligned for the man on July 27 were 02-05-17-21-30. In an interview with CBS News Detroit, he expressed his astonishment and the surreal realization of his win, "What’s crazy is the night before I matched four out of five numbers on my Fantasy 5 ticket and thought: 'I was so close!'" he said. "I was excited to win $100 but bummed that I was one number off a large jackpot prize. I never could have imagined then that the next night I would actually win the jackpot!"
