
A carjacking incident in Northwest has culminated in the arrest of a 31-year-old man by the Metropolitan Police Department. Official reports confirm the detainment of Antonio Byrd, who is currently without a fixed address, in connection with an attempted carjacking on New York Avenue, as detailed by the MPD.
Around 9:47 p.m. on Friday, Antonio Byrd allegedly assaulted an individual seated in their vehicle on the 600 block of New York Avenue, Northwest. The altercation escalated as the perpetrator demanded the vehicle keys, but failed to abscond with the car, fleeing the scene instead. According to a release by the MPD, the victim, who sustained minor injuries, received on-scene treatment from DC Fire and EMS.
The MPD's prompt response led to the quick location and arrest of Byrd, who now faces carjacking charges, as reported by the MPD. The arrest, which occurred shortly after the reported incident, has brought a measure of closure to the case, demonstrating the department’s commitment to swiftly address such serious offenses.
