Seattle law enforcement took a man into custody on Friday night following a shooting and attempted robbery in the southern part of the city. This incident, which left one person with a gunshot wound, occurred near Rainier Avenue South and South Alaska Street, according to SPD Blotter.
Reports came in around 7:30 p.m. on August 2nd, and upon arriving, officers found a 59-year-old male victim. The man had sustained a gunshot to his leg, which fractured his femur. Seattle Fire Department teams were quick to offer medical care, thereafter the wounded was transported to Harborview Medical Center in a serious, but stable condition.
While the gunman fled initially, Seattle Police included efforts from the Tukwila Police Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office K9 units to track down the suspect. In a matter of time, the 39-year-old alleged shooter was located, not far from where the incident took place. However, police have yet to recover the firearm that was used in the crime.
The suspect is now facing serious charges—Seattle Police have booked him into King County Jail for felony Investigation of Assault and attempted Robbery—as detailed by SPD Blotter. Further details on this case are still forthcoming as detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit have taken the lead in the investigation.
Community safety and the prevalence of gun violence remain pressing issues as Seattle grapples with these sudden, and often unpredictable acts of aggression. Keeping firearms out of dangerous hands continues to be a priority for local law enforcement as they deal with the aftermath of such events and strive to prevent future incidents.
