
A suspect is now in custody facing serious allegations following a machete assault in Northeast Portland. The incident occurred yesterday morning, with police responding to a call at Gateway Green Park on the 1200 block of Northeast 92nd Avenue. According to the Portland Police Bureau, when officers arrived, they discovered an adult male victim who had sustained a significant arm injury.
The victim, along with witnesses at the scene, assisted law enforcement by providing a description of the assailant and the route of his escape. This information proved crucial for officers to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect. On their search, police also found a machete, believed to be the weapon used in the attack; it was then seized as evidence. While the victim declined ambulance service, he sought medical assistance on his own terms.
Charged with this violent crime is Victor A. Peterson, 37, who now faces Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Following the investigation by the Portland Police Major Crimes Unit Detectives, Peterson was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
