Tragedy struck at Folsom Lake on Saturday evening when a 37-year-old man drowned while swimming near the Granite Bay boat ramp; authorities were alerted to the incident around 7:12 p.m. according to a report by ABC10.
Dive teams from California State Parks alongside lifeguards responded promptly, locating the victim in approximately 18 minutes despite their rapid response and lifesaving attempts, the man sadly did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene, this according to statements from California State Parks.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, had been swimming without a life jacket at the time of the incident, a detail that highlights the ongoing concerns regarding water safety and the essential use of personal flotation devices. In a statement obtained by FOX40, California State Parks expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the individual, affirming the unfortunate fact that a recreational outing can quickly turn into a fatal situation.
South Placer Fire medics were also on the scene attempting lifesaving efforts, but despite the quick response and the professional interventions the combined efforts at rescue were ultimately not enough to reverse the tragic course of events, California State Parks officials are using this incident to remind the public about the importance of wearing a personal flotation device while engaging in aquatic activities.
