On Wednesday morning, a 22-year-old man, Diogene Nsengiyumva of Manchester, turned himself into the police in connection with a shooting incident that happened at a local convenience store in Manchester, New Hampshire. According to Boston 25 News, the shooting took place around 9:50 a.m. at the El Parcero Market on Maple Street, leading to a 27-year-old man suffering a serious gunshot wound.
The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, received immediate medical attention after walking into Elliot Hospital. He is reportedly in critical but stable condition, an update that was confirmed by the Manchester Police Department. Nsengiyumva is facing charges that include first-degree assault, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and theft by unauthorized taking (shoplifting), as relayed by authorities to WHDH News.
Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg clarified the nature of the altercation, stating, “This is not a random act of violence. It wasn’t a robbery," in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News. Surveillance video from the store reportedly captured Nsengiyumva in a confrontation with the victim before fleeing the scene on foot.
The store, during the incident, was staffed by two or three employees, none of whom were injured, Aldenberg detailed. The ongoing investigation seeks to further understand the circumstances that led up to the shooting. Nsengiyumva's self-surrender to the police follows the department's efforts to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for the violent ordeal. Details on Nsengiyumva's arraignment and subsequent legal proceedings have not yet been released by officials.
