A fatal collision last night in Manteca has become the subject of a police investigation after a pedestrian was struck and killed by an allegedly impaired driver. The Manteca Police Department reported that the accident occurred on West Yosemite Avenue outside the Kaiser Permanente Manteca Medical Center, as per KCRA.
Authorities identified the victim in the tragic incident as a man, but have yet to release his name pending notification of next of kin. Following the event, West Yosemite Avenue was closed off between Fishback Road and St. Dominic's Drive to to truly allow for a comprehensive investigation, but it has since been reopened to the public, according to information from ABC10.
The driver involved in the fatal collision has been identified as 38-year-old Blake Joseph Walker from Manteca. Walker was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs. He is currently being held at the San Joaquin County Jail. This development was revealed in a statement obtained by KCRA.
The Manteca Police Department is actively seeking information from anyone who might have been witness to or otherwise know relevant details of the crash.
