Looking for a combination of serene lake views and a full-body workout? Head over to Cleary Lake Regional Park on August 23 where you can dive into the world of Stand-Up Paddleboarding. From 12 noon to 2 PM, instructors at the Outdoor Recreation School will guide participants through the essentials of mastering SUP. It's an opportunity not only to balance on the waves but also to get a crash course in paddling techniques for all sorts of conditions.
The session promises a thorough rundown on SUP equipment, prioritizing safety first. Those new to the activity, as well as paddleboarding veterans seeking to brush up on their skills, are welcome. As per the announcement on the Scott County website, attendees will be taught several ways to enjoy the board, "from laying, sitting, kneeling to standing." The hands-on experience includes learning the graceful art of getting on and off the board out on the water, an essential skill for any serious enthusiast.
The cost to unlock these skills is $35, perhaps a small price to pay for the confidence and fun that comes with proficient paddleboarding. Reservations are mandatory and must be made two days in advance by calling 763-559-6700. There's also some incentive for group learning, as parties of four or more can grab a 20 percent discount. It should be noted, that this program is geared towards folks 14 years old and up — a fitting adventure for teenagers and adults alike.
With the equipment provided, there's no excuse not to give it a go. Whether it's the challenge of standing upright on a board or the tranquility of skimming across Cleary Lake, SUP offers a unique blend of physical engagement and peaceful retreat. Remember, mastering balance on the waves can be much like finding balance in life, a pursuit of stability amid the ebbs, and flows.
