In a recent development from the Boston Police Department, an individual by the name of Brandon McCallop from Mattapan has been apprehended after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with a masked armed robbery that occurred last month. On the morning of Friday, August 9, members of the Fugitive Unit took McCallop into custody around the vicinity of 733 Centre Street, following a pursuit on charges that include, but are not limited to, Armed Robbery While Masked and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Details obtained from Boston Police Department's official news update reveal that the incident leading to McCallop's arrest unfolded at approximately 9:15 PM, on the night of July 23, where police officers from District D-14 (Allston/Brighton) were dispatched to a reported armed robbery at 140 North Beacon Street, upon arrival the officers gathered information that suggested that a suspect had brandished a firearm at the victim before forcefully demanding cash, and then he escaped before law enforcement could apprehend him officers did search but their efforts were fruitless at the time.
The charges against McCallop include a lengthy list of felony allegations, amongst them are Armed Assault To Rob (Firearm), Firearm Use In Felony, Intimidate To Steal From Depository, and Assault and Battery On a Person Over 60. The severity of these charges is compounded by McCallop's priors, as this stands as his third offense for unlawful firearm possession. His criminal history also marks him for Firearm Violation With 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes.
The community around Brighton has been on edge since the robbery occurred, especially given that one of the victims was a person over the age of sixty we can speculate that the arrest might offer them some relief, McCallop is set to be arraigned in the West Roxbury District Court where the legal process will continue to unfold, it is expected that during this time further evidence and details regarding the case will come to light.
