Mayor Muriel Bowser is teaming up with the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) and local foodies to drive a delicious surge in economic support for DC's dining scene during Summer Restaurant Week which kicks off this Monday. According to a recent announcement, Bowser highlighted the significance of the week-long event starting August 12 and extending through August 18, urging the community to partake in the gastronomic exploits that the city has to offer.
With 350 participating eateries, and menus that range the spectrum of affordability—brunch and lunch combos for either $25 or $35, and up to $65 for a multi-course dinner—patrons won't be hard-pressed to find something both palatable and economical; this year's selection includes newcomers like BeerLab DC, Claudio's Stable, and a spate of others that promise to enliven taste buds while bolstering the hospitality sector which barely years ago, was rattled by a pandemic now seems distant yet still fresh in our collective memory.
The event not only showcases the culinary diversity of the city but also celebrates the local chefs who have brought recognition to the scene. Michael Rafidi of Albi and Masako Morishita of Perry's, both award recipients at the James Beard Foundation Awards, elevate the profile of DC's food culture, with Perry's participating in the Restaurant Week festivities. RAMW's President, Shawn Townsend, expressed his excitement in a statement, noting that Restaurant Week serves as both a celebration of culinary talent and an occasion for creating lasting memories.
Prospective diners can chart their culinary expeditions across the city by visiting the official Restaurant Week website, where reservation bookings and savory menu previews await at their fingertips. Among the novel establishments to explore, diners will find names like Pastis, Piccolina, and Seven Reasons which alongside others are bound to contribute their verses to the epicurean narratives that define our city's restaurant lore while they contribute to the industry's recovery narrative that's been penned in the wake of an unrelenting global crisis, something the dining community knows all too well.
