The National Weather Service in Memphis has forecasted a series of varied weather conditions for the coming days. Starting today, there's a "30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 2pm and 5pm," with sweltering temperatures that could soar as high as 98 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat index—a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the air temperature—could kick those figures up to a blistering 104 degrees, according to the NWS update.
As the sun sets, any persisting thunderstorms are expected to dissipate before 9pm, giving way to patchy fog late into the night. Residents should anticipate partly cloudy skies and a low of around 75 degrees. On the move towards Friday, Memphis faces "a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms" with new rainfall amounts potentially reaching higher in the midst of thunderstorms, which could affect local commutes and outdoor plans.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday is forecasted as "Chance of precipitation is 70%," with an onslaught of thunderstorms possible after the afternoon strikes 1pm. The chances of rainfall continue into Sunday, with a consistent "50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms" reported by the NWS. Though mostly cloudy, temperatures will somewhat alleviate, presenting highs near a more manageable 83 degrees.
As Memphis residents prepare for the Labor Day weekend, the weather offers a slight reprieve, with only "a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm" on the holiday itself. Attendees of outdoor gatherings should still bring umbrellas, just in case. Monday night will revert to mostly cloudy conditions. This pattern of intermittent showers persists through Wednesday, with a 40 percent chance of unwelcome drizzles belying a forecast of mostly sunny skies.
