Memphis fire officials responded to a fire at a Midtown building on Poplar Avenue, bringing the blaze under control after it erupted yesterday evening. Action News 5 reported that Memphis Fire Department crews were on the scene at Poplar Avenue and Montgomery, where the building, now confirmed to be a residential home, was notably engulfed before firefighters extinguished the flames. There were no reported injuries, and crews blocked off traffic to manage the situation effectively.
The intensity of the fire was such that flames were visible leaping from the roof of the house, drawing the attention of onlookers and disrupting the usual calm of the Midtown area. WREG described the scene with flames breaking through the rooftop of the large residence. For now, the cause of the fire remains, a mystery and an investigation has been initiated by the MFD to uncover what sparked the incident.
Further confirming the event, FOX13 Memphis reported that the fire occurred just after 8:00 p.m. yesterday. Though the building appeared to be a residential home, the MFD had yet to provide explicit confirmation of its use at the time of the event. Safety protocols were observed, as the area was cordoned off, ensuring that the conflagration did not pose a direct threat to passersby or neighbors.
