A man identified as Detawan Gunn, 30, has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred outside Railgarten restaurant in Memphis. According to Action News 5, the shooting on August 16 led to four victims sustaining gunshot wounds and damage to two vehicles from bullets. Gunn has been charged with five counts of attempted second-degree murder and related firearm and vandalism offenses.
Memphis Police were called to the scene at Railgarten, a bar and restaurant in the Cooper-Young neighborhood, following a dispute which escalated into violence. In a statement obtained by WREG News, a victim who had been at Railgarten pursued the suspect, described as being in a gray Lexus SC, to the intersection of East E.H. Crump Boulevard and South Camilla Street, where a shot was reportedly fired at him.
The investigators utilized MPD camera footage to trace the vehicle, which had Arkansas dealer tags. These tags had been reportedly swapped between multiple vehicles, including a two-door dark-colored Lexus and a gray Acura sedan. Gunn is said to have received a traffic citation in a gray Honda Accord bearing the same tags on June 28, indicating a connection to a series the gunshot incidents.
During an interview with the Violent Crime Unit Investigators reported by FOX13 Memphis, Gunn admitted his work as a mechanic may involve swapping tags between vehicles; however, he denied using the tags on the Lexus implicated in the shooting. Gunn claimed the tags were stolen between late May and early June. Subsequent execution of a search warrant at Gunn’s residence led to the discovery of vehicle paperwork and keys to the Lexus.
Gunn has been booked into the Shelby County Jail, where he remains without bond. His court appearance is expected to be on Friday, following his arrest and the subsequent investigation into the disturbing events that unfolded at the popular Memphis venue.
