In what has developed into a grave and distressing issue at Granville T. Woods Academy in the City of Memphis, Chester Porter, a math teacher employed at the school, stands accused of having committed several child sex crimes. As reported by Action News 5, the Memphis Police Department arrested Porter following a complaint about a sexual video of him that circulated amongst students.
The video in question, which was widely distributed throughout the school, featured Porter engaging in what was described as a "lewd sexual act" on himself. Adding a layer of complexity to the investigation, one student, a 15-year-old girl, claimed having endured sexual advances by Porter, inclusive of inappropriate touching and communicative acts of a sexual nature, according to information obtained by WREG News Channel 3.
Specific charges facing Porter include sexual exploitation of a minor, solicitation of a minor—both electronically and in person, sexual battery, and solicitation of a minor to wit aggravated statutory rape and sexual battery by an authority figure.
Investigations have revealed that the teacher not only admitted to the self-filmed sexual act during a video call with a student but also acknowledged engaging in explicit conversations with the student and another unidentified pupil through social media platforms during the 2023-2024 academic year. Such exploitative behaviors were confirmed through a statement released by the FOX13 Memphis report.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), under whose charter the academy operates, has decided not to comment on the active investigation. Overall, Porter is confronted with both the law and the court of public opinion, as the repercussions of his actions unravel in the judicial system and the lives of those involved.
