A shooting incident involving Memphis police and armed suspects at a Frayser gas station has led to an arrest and an active search for three additional suspects. According to Local Memphis, the ordeal started around 4:45 p.m. on August 12, when an officer heard shots fired at the EZ Shop gas station located in the 2300 block of Frayser Blvd. Four men reportedly confronted a man in the parking lot, threatening to shoot him while forcibly taking a gun from his waistband.

The suspects were confronted by a security guard who, having been pointed at by one of the arm men, told them to leave. The suspects fired several shots at the guard and the victim as they fled in a white Ford sedan, "police say they fired several shots at both the victims." One of the victims was injured but declined transport to the hospital. In their pursuit, Memphis Police have identified one of the suspects as Jaylin Briggs, who was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. WREG reports that Briggs was previously charged with first-degree murder in 2021, but those charges were dismissed due to a lack of prosecution.

Following the initial confrontation, an officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle as it sped north on Mountain Terrace. The car briefly stopped and two passengers ran on foot, prompting a police chase. During the chase, "at least one of the suspects had a gun," and for reasons still under investigation, an officer fired a single shot at one of the suspects dressed in all-black attire, according to Action News 5. The shot suspect managed to evade capture and has not been located, and it remains unclear whether he was hit by the gunshot.

The second suspect, Briggs, sustained minor injuries and was apprehended and taken to Regional One Hospital for treatment before being charged. During the chase, two officers suffered injuries unrelated to gunfire. They were treated at the hospital, "police said two officers were injured in the chase, but not from gunfire," as advised by Local Memphis.

Memphis Police are continuing to search for the three other suspects tied to the shooting incident, including the one who was shot at by the police officer. The escaping white Ford sedan is distinct with the first three characters of the license plate being BRT.
