Tragedy struck early this morning in North Memphis when a nine-month pregnant woman was critically injured after being stabbed, as per the reports from local law enforcement. According to WREG, the Memphis Police Department answered a call for an aggravated assault/domestic violence incident around 3 a.m. on the 1000 block of Lexington Circle; almost concurrently, they received another call about a wounding just up the road at 1057 North Watkins Street.
The woman, found with stab wounds, reported that it was the father of her child who attacked her after an argument escalated, the suspect allegedly stabbed an air mattress before turning the knife on her, inflicting injuries on her side and hand during an altercation a narrative echoed in accounts provided by Action News 5, and then she sought help at a nearby location on N Watkins Street; she was eventually taken to Regional One Hospital in what was described as critical condition, the hospital later elevated her status to "stable" following surgery, FOX13 Memphis reports.
No weapon was found on the scene after the attack, and the suspect had fled before authorities arrived, as found by the local police. Despite the immediate danger being over, a small drop of blood was discovered on the deflated air mattress.
In the wake of the investigation, the Memphis Police Department has identified the man they believe is responsible for the stabbing, though his whereabouts remain unknown, anyone with potential information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
