According to the official announcement by the MPD, a total of thirteen individuals were arrested, including 63-year-old Corey Walls and two juvenile males aged 15 and 13. The ages of the suspects range from 13 to 63, reflecting a wide spectrum of those engaged in these criminal activities. The offenses took place in several neighborhoods, from the 1400 Block of Eastern Avenue NE to the 2500 Block of Ontario Road NW.
Amongst the arrests, several individuals were apprehended during an incident on the 1300 Block of Upshur Street NW, including 19-year-old Da'moni Rodgers, Rayshawn Murray, and 33-year-old Rajaee Mitchell, all charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Days following, on Monday, July 29, 2024, arrests included 26-year-old Dagmawi Hirpa from Alexandria, VA, and others from various quadrants of the district's neighborhoods.
A notable case on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, involved 24-year-old Clarence Thomas of Alexandria, VA, who was charged with Theft One (Stolen Auto) on the 1800 Block of Wisconsin Avenue NW. Alongside him, 26-year-old Tyekeya James, was arrested in connection, with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle at the same location. These cases highlight the continued efforts by MPD to curb the prevalence of vehicle theft in the city.
