As Miami-Dade County Commissioners team up with industry partners to tackle the issue of water damage and flooding, Commissioners Raquel Regalado and Roberto Gonzalez are set to announce a unique initiative aimed at protecting homes across the region. The demonstration project partners include faucet and fixture giant Moen and non-profit Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, a move that marks a significant step in addressing a critical concern for many property owners.

This collaboration seeks to minimize the costly impact of in-home water leaks, an issue that leads to a staggering waste of resources – nearly one trillion gallons of water annually across American households. According to an advisory from Commissioner Regalado’s office, water damage occurs with a higher likelihood than both fire damage, theft, and results in approximately $15 billion in insurance payouts yearly due to leaks.

In an effort to bring this ambitious project to life, the Commissioners are set to share details in a press briefing scheduled for tomorrow, at 10:30 a.m. The event will be hosted by Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade located at 3628 Grand Ave. in Miami, as outlined in the aforementioned advisory. Panelists intend to shed light on how this demonstration project could potentially serve as a precedent for future nationwide applications.

Integral to the project, are the technological contributions from Moen, a leading company in the plumbing sector, which is set to provide innovative solutions aimed at leak prevention and water conservation. Jeff Barnes, Vice President of Business Development at Moen, will be present to discuss the integral role of such advanced technologies in safeguarding homes from the kind of water damage that not only drains finances but, also inflicts considerable distress on affected families. Moreover, JS Rashid, who serves as President of Public-Private Partners, Inc. and is also Vice President of the Board of Directors at Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, will partake in discussions underscoring the importance of public-private collaboration.
