The Michigan community is dealing with the disturbing case of Dr. Oumair Aejaz of Rochester Hills, who is currently facing charges linked to the alleged capturing of nude images of both minors and adults, along with other sex crimes. Investigators are deeply engaged in a painstaking review of a substantial amount of digital evidence, an endeavor that is projected to take up to six months to complete. As reported by clickondetroit, the materials include more than 13,000 videos discovered on just one of the storage devices seized and span across a period of roughly six years.
Arrested and held on a $2 million bond, the 40-year-old Aejaz, an Indian citizen in the U.S. on a visa, is charged with a series of sex crimes, including one count of child sexually abusive activity and multiple counts of capturing/recording nude individuals. Hoodline highlighted concerns over the broad scope of the case, with Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard suggesting the extent of the offenses could even surpass the high-profile Larry Nassar case. The shocking range of Aejaz's alleged victimization includes patients who were recorded in vulnerable states, which also instigated a response from local institutions such as the Goldfish Swim School, where some of the illicit recording purportedly took place.
Authorities are actively encouraging anyone who believes they may be a victim of Dr. Aejaz to come forward, helping the investigation identify the numerous individuals affected by the invasive and illegal recordings. Officials have set up a dedicated email, [email protected], for potential victims to send their information, including photos, for comparison to the evidence being reviewed. While the criminal investigation is its primary focus, there is also a larger concern over double-checking the legality of Aejaz's medical practices and the validity of his hospital privileges. Hospitals where Aejaz had privileges, including Ascension Genesys and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, have terminated his access. The charges Aejaz is currently facing may increase as investigators work through the significant digital footprint left behind. Furthermore, the status of the evidence, whether some of it might have been distributed online or into the hands of others, continues to be examined.
