Michigan authorities have charged a Rochester Hills doctor, Oumair Aejaz, with several counts of sex crimes ranging from capturing nude images to abusive activity against minors. Aejaz, 40, an Indian citizen who has been working in the United States on a visa since 2011, is being held on $2 million bond, as detailed in reports by CBS News Detroit and The Detroit News.
The accusations include the use of hidden cameras to record individuals, some as young as two years old, in various states of undress at locations such as his home, medical institutions, and a local swim club. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard described the scope of Aejaz's alleged crimes as so broad and the perversion so great, emphasizing the potential magnitude of the case which he suggested could surpass that of Larry Nassar's, in a Facebook post by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
After the arrest, which occurred on August 8, investigators confiscated six computers, four cellphones, and 15 external storage devices – from which one contained a staggering 13,000 videos. Currently, authorities are sorting through this trove of evidence, which they estimate could take months. According to Sheriff Bouchard, there is "no particular category" to Aejaz's victimization, with the victims including adults and children, patients, and possibly personal acquaintances, as per CBS News Detroit.
Videos retrieved so far reveal disturbing scenes of individuals in vulnerable positions, with Aejaz allegedly caught on camera violating an unconscious woman in a hospital bed. These findings have elicited a wave of concern from community institutions, with the Goldfish Swim School expressing its shock and commitment to cooperation with law enforcement, as per CBS News Detroit. The school, where Aejaz was a member, vowed to put safety as a "top priority" and urged anyone with information to contact authorities. Aejaz's wife has since filed for divorce and was granted sole custody of their children, her fears about her family's safety starkly outlined in legal documents.
