A Minneapolis man with a lengthy criminal history has recently been sentenced to nearly two decades behind bars for multiple firearms offenses. Saladean Walker Salean, a 52-year-old, will serve 235 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, as announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Minnesota.
The verdict is a culmination of events that began nearly three years ago when Salean was involved in a series of violent assaults and shootings in Minneapolis—one of which resulted in a fatality. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Minnesota, the pivotal incident occurred on September 23, 2021. Police were summoned to the scene of a shooting, where they found a victim shot in the leg and several cartridge casings linked to the weapon Salean had fired.
The case against Salean, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M. Hollenhorst, rested on the fact that the defendant was legally forbidden from possessing firearms or ammunition due to his prior felony convictions, which included assault and illegal possession of firearms. Despite this, Salean engaged in no less than seven violent confrontations, spanning from September 4 to September 29, 2021.
On February 2, Salean entered into a guilty plea for possession of ammunition as an armed career criminal, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Minnesota. He was sentenced in U.S. District Court by Judge Nancy E. Brasel.
