A San Francisco man has been handed one of the longest sentences in recent history for child molestation. Jonathan George Taylor, aged 55, has been sentenced by the San Mateo County Superior Court to serve 242 years to life in state prison, as the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office reported. This sentence comes in the wake of his conviction this past June on 18 counts of lewd acts upon a child and sex with a minor involving five different victims.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Taylor's reign of abuse spanned over 15 years. The atrocities include multiple instances of molestation and rape against a 4-year-old girl between the years of 2011 and 2013. The first report of the crimes came to light in 2019 when the victim, now residing out of state, courageously came forward.
Upon a police investigation spurred by this report, two additional victims, who are sisters, were located. One sister was first molested by Taylor in 2003 when she was merely 9 years old. Her sibling suffered abuse between 1998 and 2001, around the same tender age, and was later raped by Taylor at age 17. In 2020, two more victims decided to bravely speak up, revealing four more counts of child molestation by Taylor's hand.
With a criminal past that already included a conviction for sexual battery and lewd acts with a child in 2007, Taylor's pattern of predation was not new to the authorities. Despite these prior convictions, it took years before the judicial system would permanently end to remove Taylor from our streets forcefully. During the trial, the jury found him guilty on all 18 felony counts, with prosecutors urging the court to impose the maximum possible sentence. Super Court Judge Lisa Novak denied probation, instead choosing a sentence that virtually guarantees Taylor will spend the rest of his natural life behind bars after adjusting for just over five years for time already served.
