A tragic turn of events unfolded in Morristown following a deadly hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 31-year-old pedestrian earlier this week. The Morristown Police Department (MPD) confirmed that Alisha Marie Caminiti was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross West Andrew Johnson Highway. The collision occurred just after midnight near S. Austin Road, as reported by WBIR.
Authorities initiated an investigation which led to the subsequent arrest of 34-year-old John Robert Crocillo, a Morristown local, who now faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident involving death. The MPD acted on information provided by the public and dedicated investigative work, resulting in Crocillo's detainment and charging yesterday, the MPD told WVLT.
As the investigation into the incident continues, MPD Chief Roger Overholt expressed his appreciation for community involvement which proved crucial in making swift progress. "MPD Chief Roger Overholt would like to thank the public for providing information about this incident as well as the officers and investigators who worked diligently to identify and charge the responsible individual," MPD said, according to WVLT.
Before the arrest, the police had been seeking a white, compact, four-door truck, believed to be a Chevrolet Colorado or a GMC Canyon, noted for having sustained front-end damage on the passenger side. According to details furnished by WBIR, the vehicle in question was last seen heading westbound. In the wake of the incident, the MPD urged locals to review any security camera footage and come forward with information that might have been beneficial in resolving the case.
