A tragic incident unfolded in the Hickory Grove area of Charlotte, North Carolina, when a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV resulted in a fatality on Wednesday. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to a crash in the 5000 block of North Sharon Amity Road shortly before 8:15 p.m. The accident involved a motorcycle and a Honda Pilot, both found damaged at the scene. The motorcycle operator, identified as Christine Williamson Miller, was seriously injured and later pronounced deceased, as reported by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The initial inquiry by the Major Crash Investigation Unit, accompanying the DWI Task Force, and Motor Unit posits that the Honda Pilot, steered by Jairo Zapet Garcia, did not halt for a red light while taking a left onto Shamrock Drive from North Sharon Amity Road. The motorcycle, a 2008 Harley Davidson, was hit by the front-end of Garcia's SUV. In light of the incident, Garcia now faces charges of Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, No Operator’s License, and a Red-Light Violation. The local fire department along with MEDIC responded to the emergency, who transported both Garcia and Miller to local hospitals for treatment, where Miller succumbed to her injuries. Ms. Miller's family has been notified of her untimely passing.
In the aftermath of the crash, the site was processed by members of the Crime Scene Search to gather physical evidence.
