The streets around Petco Park are about to get loud, not just from the roars of the crowd within, but from the anthemic tunes of the legendary Foo Fighters as they hit the stage on Wednesday, August 7. As over 40,000 fans converge on the venue, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is upping its game, increasing Trolley services to ensure that concert-goers can skip the traffic woes and steep parking fees. Fans are recommended to ride the Trolley to the event, directly serving Petco Park via its UC San Diego Blue, Orange, and Green lines.
Before the event, MTS offers regular services every 15 minutes, or better, to the 12th & Imperial Transit Center - just a stone's throw from the stadium. According to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, those opting for the Green Line have the added convenience of deboarding at the Gaslamp Quarter Station, further easing their way to the heart of the musical festivity.
Post-concert, there won't be any midnight scrambles for a ride home. The MTS has arranged for trolleys on the UC San Diego Blue Line to leave every 15 minutes to San Ysidro and UTC, extending these services till 45 minutes after the show's end. Likewise, the Orange and Green Lines will follow the same frequency and duration to ferry fans away from the venue, radiating the concert high into the night.
MTS also encourages using its free park & ride lots to ease the journey. With over 1,400 slots spread across locations like Old Town Transit Center and Grossmont Transit Center, there's enough room to stow away vehicles. The most strategic lots include Balboa Avenue Transit Center and Spring Street, with 235 free parking spots, which are both detailed on the MTS website. Fans can download the PRONTO app and load at least $5 for a round-trip fair for a smoother boarding process. Youth under 18 can even ride free with a Youth Opportunity Pass, ensuring the rock revelry is accessible to fans of all ages.
As for fare options, concert-goers can tap a credit card, smartphone, or smartwatch on validators for a one-way ride. Remember, though, that all riders are required to tap or scan on validators to activate their pass or fare before boarding. And it's one rider per PRONTO app or card.
