A devastating fire swept through a mobile home park in Modesto Monday afternoon, drawing a robust response from several fire departments and leaving multiple families without homes. According to their Facebook post by Modesto Fire Department, the blaze erupted on the 400 block of South 7th Street just after 2:30pm.
The situation escalated quickly as the fire consumed three mobile homes and threatened a fourth. Modesto Chief 7 was on the scene first, finding the three homes fully engulfed in flames. A total of 50 MST firefighters joined the effort, with Westport Fire District providing a water tender to aid with the water supply issues that emerged during the firefighting efforts. Despite the rapid response, three residences were destroyed, another three damaged, and one vehicle burned, according to the Modesto Fire Department.
After the fire, two residents were taken to local hospitals for treatment, and a firefighter also received medical care. Investigators are working to find out what caused the fire. The American Red Cross is helping the 16 adults and 10 children who lost their homes. The Stanislaus County Community Emergency Response Team provided supplies to support the firefighters.
