
A stabbing in Wood Village is currently being investigated by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), as reported on Thursday. Deputies were called to the scene on the 23000 block of NE Halsey Street early in the morning, around 7:15 a.m., following a report of the incident. A deputy discovered a victim with a severe neck injury, who was already receiving aid from a TriMet bus operator. According to the MCSO's official release, the deputy quickly began to provide additional life-saving first aid.
The situation escalated when Gresham firefighters arrived to further assist, eventually handing off the victim to paramedics who transported them to the hospital. The victim is now reportedly fighting for their life in intensive care. Meanwhile, a suspect has been apprehended - 56-year-old Michael Wayne Romine of Wood Village. The MCSO has charged him with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, and unlawful use of a weapon.
The East County Major Crimes Team has taken the reins to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. As the case unfolds, no further details have been shared publicly.
Romine was booked into the Multnomah County Detentions Center following the arrest. The current condition of the victim has not been released, and the MCSO has made clear that they will not release additional statements at this time.
