A Munford police officer shot a woman following a chase through Tipton County early this morning. The incident began around 2 a.m. when the driver did not comply with a routine traffic stop, prompting a pursuit into Covington, as reported by Action News 5.
The chase culminated along Highway 51, where law enforcement deployed stop sticks to halt the vehicle. After the driver's vehicle came to a stop, a Munford officer fired his weapon and struck the female driver. She was subsequently transported to the hospital in unknown condition, no officers were reportedly injured during the event.
In a parallel account provided by FOX13 Memphis, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) noted the initial attempt to stop the car occurred at approximately 2:10 a.m. The female driver’s refusal to comply led to a chase that ended with stop sticks being deployed in Covington and a subsequent shooting by the Munford officer.
The TBI is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, with their involvement requested by Mark Davidson, the 25th Judicial District Attorney General. According to WREG, the TBI responded to Highway 51 and Hope Street to investigate the "reported" officer-involved shooting shortly after the altercation. But this case remains an active and ongoing investigation, with further details pending as the inquiry unfolds.
