Brace yourselves, Nashville. The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a sizzling week ahead with temperatures consistently hovering in the mid-90s. According to the detailed forecast, today's sunny skies will see a high near 95 degrees with heat index values peaking at a sweltering 103. While a light northeast breeze may develop in the afternoon, it's expected to offer little respite from the relentless heat.
Even as the sun sets, the balmy conditions are set to continue, with tonight's low only dipping to around 73 degrees. Similarly, the NWS anticipates a "sunny and hot" day, a phrase becoming all too familiar. The high could reach the vicinity of 97 degrees, and the heat index might climb as high as 105.
The relentless heat wave seems set to extend well into the week, with Tuesday's temperatures slated to hit nearly 98 degrees under clear skies. The NWS notes that "sunny and hot" conditions will persist, and any wind offering a gentle nod of north northwest presence will do little more than stir the already heated air. As for Wednesday, expect more of the same sun-drenched reality, with a high again near 95 degrees and light winds meandering through the city.
Looking ahead, the clear skies seem unrelenting, offering no shield against the baking sun. Thursday will continue the trend, with the mercury anticipated to rise yet again to a high near 95. As noted by the NWS, a north breeze flowing at 5 to 10 mph will likely be the only gesture of comfort to those venturing outside. When night falls, there’s little solace to be found; the expected low around 73 does little to cool the heated narrative of the week.
The forecast hints at a gradual respite with Friday's high dipping to near 90 degrees, followed by a more comfortable low of 68 at night. One could hope this signals a pivot away from the highest highs of the week, and indeed, Saturday continues the slight downward trend with a sunny high projected near 89.
