In North Carolina, the Division of Motor Vehicles is streamlining their processes and expanding customer service availability by installing self-service kiosks in select Harris Teeter grocery stores. The NCDMV Express kiosks can be found at The Corners at Brier Creek in Raleigh, Riverbend Village in Charlotte, and Highland Centre in Fayetteville, with operations scheduled to be offline for maintenance every Sunday from midnight to noon, as noted on the North Carolina Department of Transportation website.
The interactive kiosks offer an array of services which include the ability for customers to renew their driver's license or state ID and obtain a Temporary Driver/Identification Certificate, order a duplicate driver license, permit or state ID, change their address, complete a voter registration after a driver license or ID transaction, and manage vehicle registration as well as property tax payments on new vehicles, allowing them to print their license plate sticker and registration card on the spot, despite you cannot renew at a kiosk if you happen to have renewed online last time, and your driver license or ID number must be on hand to change any details.
Seven more NCDMV Express kiosks are slated for release this year, with additional units considered if the existing ones achieve specific transaction volumes. According to the NCDMV, the kiosks are facilitated by Intellectual Technology, Inc., which levies a $4.95 fee per transaction, accompanied by a 2 percent card processing fee, these charges fund the provision of services without requiring an initial investment from the NCDMV, whereas, the State of North Carolina does not receive any portion of the transaction fee, making it clear where the financial benefits of this operation are allocated.
