
New Bedford Police confirmed the arrest of a 21-year-old man on multiple firearms charges earlier this week. Andres Cosme-Mateo was apprehended after officers executed an investigation at his residence on North Front Street. According to the New Bedford Police Department's official release, during their search, the police found Cosme-Mateo in possession of a .38-caliber revolver, along with a high quantity of ammunition, including a high-capacity magazine.
The investigation took a turn when officers discovered illegal firearms at 306 N. Front St., #3S. There, they encountered Cosme-Mateo and found a revolver and 39 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Officials also noted a bag containing a second high-capacity magazine and an additional 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Cosme-Mateo was determined to have no license to legally possess the firearm or ammunition. The arresting officer, Ofc. Matthew Costa, charged Cosme-Mateo with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, two counts of possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and improper storage of a firearm.
In response to the incident, New Bedford Police urge anyone with more information to come forward.
