The Avalon waterfront has just welcomed a significant new addition to its dining scene with the opening of Pier 24. This fresh culinary venture is more than just a place to eat; it's a nod to Catalina Island's maritime history. Catalina Island Company, the island's leading resort operator, has unveiled what they're calling a "top to bottom transformation" of a space that pays its respects to the storied Steamer Pier, according to What Now Los Angeles.
In the days of yore, eager tourists would arrive at Steamer Pier, marking the beginning of their island adventure. Today, Pier 24 aims to encapsulate that historic enthusiasm with a blend of nostalgic elements and modern amenities. "With Pier 24, we aim to celebrate Catalina Island’s rich history while providing a modern and welcoming dining experience," stated Hunter Rusack, Senior Vice President of Operations at Catalina Island Company, as reported by What Now Los Angeles. Large windows frame harbor views while the walls inside are adorned with vintage photography recalling an era long past.
As illustrated on visitcatalinaisland.com, Pier 24's ambiance is designed to be light, open, and inviting, featuring animated vintage photos that dance with the charm of times gone by. Guests can step onto one of the two outdoor patios to soak in the ocean breeze and the scenic panorama that includes the iconic Catalina Casino — a vista as palatable as the food on offer.
With a menu that boasts an assorted range of salads, seafood, and handcrafted pizzas, alongside a selection of burgers, paninis, and sandwiches, Pier 24 caters to a broad variety of tastes. The restaurant also serves up specialty cocktails, craft beers, and an array of wines, adding a sprinkle of indulgence to the dining experience. And for those with a sweet tooth, there's a lineup of delightful desserts. Even the younger crowd is taken into account, with staples like pizza and chicken tenders gracing the kid-friendly menu.
