The culinary landscape of Midtown is about to get spicier with the introduction of Bol, an Indian-inspired bowl concept from the creators of the fine-dining hit Amrina, slated to open this fall at 3201 Louisiana. According to Houston Chronicle, the restaurant is the brainchild of the Kahani Social Group, which made waves in the dining scene with the upscale Amrina.
"With Bol, we wanted to create a concept that blends the vibrant, bold flavors of Indian cuisine with the simplicity and convenience of a bowl," Kahani Social Group co-founder Preet Paul Singh told Houston Chronicle. Bol will share space with another upcoming Kahani venture, Pok Pok Po, a fried chicken restaurant led by Jassi Bindra, whom holds the title of Chopped champion. Both Bol and Pok Pok Po will infuse fresh energy at the site that once housed the French eatery Artisans.
The fast-casual model is not new to Preet and his collaborators, including brother Surpreet Singh and Executive Chef Jassi Bindra. Their strategic pivot recognizes the historically tighter profit margins of fine dining and presents an opportunity to cater to a broader demographic, without sidelining their commitment to quality. "When we first opened, Kahani didn't want to do just fine dining," Bindra told Houston Chronicle. "We wanted to cater to many different customers and have other ideas in the pipeline."
CultureMap Houston details that Bol’s menu will spotlight customizable bowls with a range of grilled meats, vegetables, grains, and distinctive condiments like house-made hummus and an assortment of sauces and dressings. The setup aims to attract Midtown’s bustling lunch and dinner crowds looking for convenient yet sophisticated meal options. "It's a fresh take on tradition, designed for modern lifestyles without compromising on quality or taste," Preet Paul Singh explained in a statement featured on CultureMap Houston.
Bol is not the only newcomer to the Midtown dining scene. It will join Medium Rare, a Washington, D.C.-based steak frites restaurant occupying another portion of the former Artisans space, set to debut this fall as well.
