According to authorities, the vehicle involved was an SUV that lost control before impacting the house on Cerise Avenue. Quoted in a WTOK article, a younger cousin present at the time of the crash said, "All we heard was, 'Stand still! Stand still!' They was talking about, 'Get out the car! Get out the car!'" Family members identified the teenager as Jamal Jackson, a 10th-grade Edna Karr High School student.

Found at the scene was a tan-colored KIA, its passenger side window shot out, in the crossing of a neighboring street, and Cleveland EMS quickly transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
